Sucker Punch, the developer of Ghost of Yotei, has laid off 24 members of staff. Aftermath first detailed the layoffs, and Sucker Punch later confirmed them, according to Game Developer.
Aftermath's estimated numbers put the cut at around 10 percent of the studio's total staff.
An email sent to staff and shared by Aftermath gives two reasons. The studio pointed to challenges in the market and to a review of the team's needs for its next project. Several positions across Sucker Punch will be eliminated as a result.
The email also says the decision was not made lightly. It says the studio is trying to support affected colleagues as well as it can during the transition.
The email closes by acknowledging that it is a hard day and says the studio will go into more detail about the future next week.
