EA's Respawn and DICE to collaborate on a project, reportedly Star Wars: Battlefront 3

EA executives said Respawn and DICE will work together on a project. Variety's sources reportedly identify it as Star Wars: Battlefront 3, which EA has not confirmed in the material we have.

EA's president and chief studios officer Cam Weber and president and COO David Tinson said Respawn and DICE would collaborate on a project, according to 80 Level. The outlet says Variety's sources identify that project as Star Wars: Battlefront 3. That title is a report, not an announcement.

The details come from a single secondary source, 80 Level, which in turn cites Variety. We have no official EA statement naming the game, and nothing on platforms, scope, schedule or the roles each studio would take.

80 Level places the news in the context of EA's restructuring following its acquisition by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners. It reports that EA laid off 3% of its workforce, shut down BioWare and cancelled the next Mass Effect. It lists Battlefield, Apex Legends, Marvel's Iron Man, the next Star Wars Jedi and a new Fight Night boxing game as titles EA is still invested in.

The name Battlefront 3 has history. The 80 Level piece notes that a Battlefront 3 by Free Radical Design was cancelled in 2008, and EA later released reboots of the first two games. It also points out that Respawn and DICE are not Free Radical Design, so a new game may differ from that earlier project.

For now, treat the Battlefront 3 detail as unconfirmed. The collaboration itself is what the executives said. Anything beyond that should wait for an official EA announcement.
