Croteam and Devolver Digital have announced Serious Sam: The Third Encounter. The developers say it picks up "exactly where The Second Encounter left off." An official teaser is out and the game now has a Steam listing.
Despite the story placement, it is the seventh title in the Serious Sam series, according to 80 Level. The games released between the two are Serious Sam 2 (2005), Serious Sam 3: BFE (2011), Serious Sam 4 (2020) and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem (2022).
Croteam describes the game as a classic FPS action-adventure set in new worlds with many enemies. It promises thousands of enemies and numerous weapons, plus new additions to Sam's usual arsenal. The story has Sam going up against Mental's Horde. Players can go solo or play co-op with friends.
The game is in early development, and no release date, platforms or price appear in the source material. Croteam wrote on its Discord that it will keep sharing details as development goes on and that player feedback will matter. If you follow the series, the Steam page is the place to check for updates.
