AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 arrives on Xbox Series X|S with October 2026 GDK

AMD says ML-based FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 is now available on Xbox Series X|S through the October 2026 Microsoft GDK, the first time ML-based FSR Upscaling has run on Xbox consoles. It uses the same SDK API as on PC, and it also reaches ROG Xbox Ally handhelds through FSR SDK 2.4.

AMD announced that FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 is available on Xbox Series X|S with the October 2026 Microsoft Game Development Kit. AMD says it is the first time ML-based FSR Upscaling has come to Xbox consoles. Developers already using the analytical FidelityFX Super Resolution on Xbox get an upgraded option for higher perceived resolution and image quality.

On Series X|S, 4.1.2 ships with two models: Full INT8, and a new Lite INT8 model that is less than half the size and has a lower upscaling cost. Both run on Series X and Series S, and Xbox optimized the implementation for both consoles in collaboration with AMD. Upscaler memory is the same for both models, since it depends on render and display resolution rather than the model. AMD says that makes the choice a performance trade-off, not a memory one.

A new AMD FSR GDK sample shows the integration. It switches between Full and Lite at runtime so developers can compare image quality and upscaling cost in the same scene. It builds for Xbox Series X|S and Windows desktop, and its README lists memory and performance figures for both models on each console.

Integration uses the same FSR SDK API as on Windows. Registered Xbox developers get AMD-signed binaries for Series X|S in the GDK and use the same API headers as on PC. Inputs are jittered color, depth and motion vectors, with the reactive mask and the transparency and composition mask optional. Quality modes match PC: Native AA, Quality, Balanced, Performance and Ultra Performance. AMD recommends using these standard names and scaling ratios in game settings.

The ROG Xbox Ally, ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally X20 are Windows devices, so developers use the standard SDK there. FSR SDK 2.4 supports the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A processors in these handhelds, using an efficient INT8 model. ASUS offers a preview driver for the ROG Xbox Ally X and X20 that upgrades DirectX 12 games with FSR 3.1 or newer. ROG Xbox Ally support follows in a later update. AMD recommends natively integrating the latest SDK, which is also required for FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 on Vulkan.
