Remedy's third-quarter revenue surged by 226%, which the company describes as revenue tripling. The jump followed the September 24 launch of Control Resonant. Revenue in the quarter came from preorders and the game's first seven days of sales. The physical release came after the review period, on October 15.
Since launch, Resonant has sold over one million units, making it Remedy's fastest-selling title. Game sales and royalties made up most of Q3 revenue at €35 million, up from €6 million a year earlier. Development fees from the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake and the final fee accrual for Resonant under the Annapurna agreement totalled €4.3 million.
The US accounted for nearly half of Resonant's PC and console sales. On PC, Chinese-speaking regions and the UK ranked second and third. On console, the UK, Canada and Brazil ranked second, third and fourth. Remedy's internal data showed nearly half of Resonant players were new to the Control franchise. The original 2019 Control also sold more than in the comparison period and in the first two quarters of the year.
Remedy called Alan Wake a quieter quarter, and said Alan Wake 2's capitalised development costs are now fully depreciated. Outstanding wishlists for Resonant total 2.4 million.
On costs, Remedy said that because it now self-publishes, it directly incurs royalty expenses and platform fees. Royalty expenses include Annapurna's share of Resonant's revenue and will decrease once initial investments have been recouped. After launch, Remedy began depreciating the game's capitalised development costs, and marketing spend peaked around the launch.
CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon said the priority is to get Resonant to more players, and that Remedy will invest with discipline and prioritise actions with a clear return. He said sales over the rest of the year will define Remedy's financial year 2026, and that the other projects are proceeding in the pipeline.
