Unreal Engine 5.8.4 ships without post-Oct 5 fixes; UE6 main renames UBT API
Unreal Engine 5.8.4 shipped on Oct 20 but omits fixes made after Oct 5. Meanwhile the ue6-main branch renames parts of UnrealBuildTool's public C# API and triggers large recooks, per a community weekly roundup.

Unreal Engine 5.8.4 shipped on Oct 20, according to a weekly roundup posted on r/unrealengine (a community source, not an official Epic post). It is the same candidate that landed on the 5.8 branch in the first week of October. It consists of a version bump plus 108 cherry-picks.
If you are considering the move, note that 5.8.4 has none of the changes made after Oct 5. The roundup lists the Mac Editor crash fix, a fix for a shader compile hang with async compilation off, and the movie staging pair as examples that are not included. The ue5-main branch also received cook determinism fixes, including one for stale cook results that could persist indefinitely on affected machines, plus Physics, Niagara and CEF fixes the roundup says are worth reviewing if you maintain a 5.8 project.
The bigger changes are on ue6-main, a development branch. UnrealBuildTool's public C# API is being renamed: public fields lose their 'b' prefixes and public parameters move to camelCase. Build.cs, Target.cs, config keys and command-line flags keep their names. Custom UAT, BuildGraph and Gauntlet code may need changes.
Expect rebuild and recook cost when you sync. Every Linux compile action reruns once after a response-file change, and cook version bumps invalidate cached packages, including a one-time Blueprint recook. The roundup says 22 commits addressed cook determinism and multithreaded-save safety, aiming to make incremental cooking more trustworthy even if that means expensive recooks now.
One security item needs attention if you self-host Horde with tracing. MongoDB spans could send service account tokens and signing keys to Datadog. The fix masks sensitive fields, but existing traces may still contain them, so the roundup advises reviewing and rotating exposed credentials or purging affected traces.
Smaller ue6-main changes: UMG Widget Blueprint authoring, Landscape and Sound Cue gained new scripting surfaces, which the roundup describes as editor systems becoming scriptable and AI-callable. The Landscape implementation is still experimental. Mac and Android audio now cooks to BINKA instead of OGG, Audio Modulation and the Waveform Editor are enabled by default, and shader libraries can release unreferenced shaders. The roundup links a full report at speedrun.ci.

Unreal Engine 5.8: new features reportedly only for Movie Render Graph, not MRQ
A community post says Epic has stopped adding features to Movie Render Queue as of Unreal Engine 5.8, and that new work will go to Movie Render Graph only. The claim is unverified here, but teams that render with MRQ should check their pipelines.
