Sucker Punch Productions has reportedly laid off 24 employees. The report comes from GamesIndustry.biz, which cites an internal email obtained by Aftermath. The email does not give a headcount. The figure of 24 comes from a former employee.

According to the email, the studio decided to make staffing reductions after carefully observing the challenges in the market and reviewing the team needs for its next project. It also says the decision was not made lightly and that the studio worked to support affected colleagues. The email promises that more details about the future will follow next week.

GamesIndustry.biz has contacted Sony Interactive Entertainment for comment. At the time of the report, no official confirmation of the number or the scope of the cuts was available from the company.

The layoffs follow a strong run for the studio's latest game. Ghost of Yōtei, the sequel to 2020's Ghost of Tsushima, launched last October and sold 3.3 million copies in its first month, ahead of Tsushima's sales over the same period. GSD data cited in the report puts it as Sony's largest first-party PlayStation launch in Europe.

Sony said Yōtei significantly contributed to its Q3 results, where digital game and add-on content revenue rose 6% to $4.8 billion. Sucker Punch has kept supporting the game, adding a multiplayer mode in March and a complete edition with a single-player narrative expansion earlier this month.

Until Sony or Sucker Punch confirms details, treat the headcount as unconfirmed. Affected developers may want to watch for the studio's follow-up communication next week.
