Epic Games announced on November 5 that the full Quixel Megascans library is going free on Fab. Quixel said in its announcement that Fab listings will update between November 5 and November 12, so assets that are not yet free may need a recheck. GameFromScratch puts the library at more than 23,000 assets.

This is not the first time the library has been free. GameFromScratch notes it was made free at Fab's launch and again a few months later, when the assets were migrated from Quixel to Fab.

Quixel also updated the terms for all Quixel assets. They now allow training AI models on Megascans and Megaplants. Quixel's stated rationale is that models can learn from real-world scans to help generate varied, photorealistic environments.

Anyone who purchased Megascans or a Quixel Bundle on or after January 1, 2025 will be refunded to their Epic Account Balance, which can be spent across Epic products and not just on Fab. Those customers keep their license and receive the new AI rights. To get the refund, log into your Epic Account and accept the latest terms if you haven't already. Refunds should show in the balance by the end of 2026, and the balance can be checked after logging in on Fab.com. Issues go to Fab support.

Companies with a Quixel studio license stay under the terms of their contract, according to the FAQ, and should contact their representative with questions. GameFromScratch reports it saw no update yet to the linked asset license or the Fab EULA, and suggests the change may follow the same November 12 timeline.
