Itch.io deletes bulk AI-generated uploads and adds a "No AI" search filter
Itch.io said it removed a couple terabytes of AI-generated spam and added a filter that hides games with generative AI disclosures from search. The platform says the action targets bulk uploads, not all games that use generative AI.

Itch.io announced this week that it had removed a couple terabytes of what it called AI slop. According to 80 Level, the platform clarified that the crackdown was aimed at AI-generated spam. In its words, being able to upload 10 terabytes of poorly optimized AI-generated models does not mean someone should.
Alongside the purge, itch.io introduced a "No AI" filter. It lets users leave games with generative AI disclosures out of their search results.
80 Level reports that this is not an outright ban on games that use generative AI. The action is aimed at bulk uploads of AI creations. Itch.io's quality guidelines for creators draw the same line: content should bring something new and valuable to the community.
The guidelines also say that if a project involves automatic or AI generation, this must be clearly stated in the project description. The project should also add substantial value to the user experience.
80 Level places the move against other storefronts. It describes itch.io as taking a much stronger stance against AI than Valve, which recently commented on AI-generated games on Steam and suggested developers may be partly responsible by making games too easy to replicate. It also says the Epic Games Store seems particularly open to generative AI, noting that a recent new launcher was openly described as "vibe coded".
