Vine FX has published a VFX breakdown for Pompeii: Out of Time, the three-part National Geographic docudrama series. CG Channel reported the release on 14 October 2026.
In the series, Tom Hiddleston explores ancient Pompeii and asks whether anyone could have survived the city's final day. That day was brought about by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
Vine FX handled the VFX for the dramatic reconstructions that accompany the documentary interviews. The studio recreated both Vesuvius and the city below it in 3D.
The eruption is the main event. According to CG Channel, Vine FX simulated the millions of tons of molten rock, pulverised pumice and hot ash that Vesuvius ejected. These fall on Pompeii, the surrounding countryside and the Bay of Naples.
CG Channel lists no other technical information about the production so far, so the software and pipeline details are not yet known. Artist credits are listed on IMDb. The breakdown itself is the place to check for the visual work.
