Unreal ue6-main drops VS2022 support; minimum MSVC now 14.50.35723
A community roundup of recent Unreal Engine source commits says the ue6-main branch no longer supports the VS2022 compiler. It also lists fixes on ue5-main, including one for a Mac editor crash, that 5.8 users may want to cherry-pick.

Unreal Engine's ue6-main branch no longer supports the VS2022 compiler. The minimum MSVC is now 14.50.35723, and project file settings no longer select the compiler. This comes from a weekly commit roundup posted to r/unrealengine, which is an unofficial source. Check your toolchain setup before syncing to ue6-main.
Other ue6-main changes in the roundup: unresolved symbols on Linux now fail at link time, and modules must explicitly opt out if they don't want that. If any of your modules currently rely on unresolved symbols slipping through, check them. Ray tracing now requires inline support, which matters if you work across different hardware or renderer configurations. Lumen indirect rays also changed what they hit. The author suggests investigating that change if you see lighting differences after a sync.
The public 5.8 branch had zero commits last week, according to the post. That leaves 5.8.4 as an untagged candidate, and nothing new landed for it this week. These are source branch observations, not releases.
For teams on 5.8, the post lists fixes under ue5-main. One addresses a Mac editor exit crash, which Epic calls the "top Mac crash in 5.8.2." The author would look at it first if you ship editor builds on Mac. Another fixes a shader compilation hang and assert that appears when async shader compilation is disabled. That is relevant if build machines or commandlets run with it off.
The post also lists two movie staging changes for Zen and file-server runs. The author advises taking them together rather than cherry-picking just one. Verify any commit against Epic's repository before pulling it into a production branch, since this account is a secondhand summary.
