Facial capture on an indie budget: the devices MetaHuman Animator supports
You don't need a head-mounted rig to start. Here's what Epic lists for real-time and offline capture, from iPhones to plain webcams.

Epic's capture device requirements for MetaHuman Animator cover a wide range of hardware. iPhone 12 or newer works for both real-time and offline capture, with Live Link Face installed.
For real-time tracking, an iPad (8th generation or later), Android 13 or later on supported chipsets, or any USB webcam that works with Windows' UVC driver can be used. Offline capture is also available on Android 13 or later through the Live Link Face Android beta.
Vertically aligned stereo camera pairs are supported for offline capture only, and Epic requires stereo hardware to be head-mounted.
Unreal Engine 5.8 also adds experimental single-camera body capture to MetaHuman Animator, so full-body performance from one camera is now something you can test.
